John Katrakis is the founder and Principle of J. T. Katrakis & Associates, Inc. He has 24 years experience in providing energy management services to institutional, commercial, residential and industrial customers. Projects include: hospitals, K-12 schools, colleges & universities; office buildings; high rise and low-rise multifamily private and public housing; houses of worship; printing, metal finishing and food processing facilities.

Applied technologies include energy efficiency improvements, distributed power generation, renewable energy systems and environment enhancement techniques. Services include providing energy studies, monitoring and evaluation, design, assistance during construction phases, and training on all aspects of facility energy management.

As principal of J. T. Katrakis & Associates in Barrington, Illinois (IL), his clients include building owners and managers, Energy Service Companies (ESCOs), architectural and engineering firms, and local utilities and government agencies. He has developed and directed research & development in building energy science and technology development while at the Center for Neighborhood Technology and has a Special Term Appointment at Argonne National Laboratory.

Mr. Katrakis has published numerous technical articles and has presented at a number of workshops and seminars. He received a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology specializing in fluid mechanics and heat transfer. John is a registered Professional Engineer in Illinois, an accredited LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) professional and a member of the U.S. Green Building Council, ASHRAE, ASES and the City of Chicago Energy Code Committee that developed the City’s first building energy code. He has received a number of ASHRAE Energy Awards for building energy projects and his ASHRAE publications have earned him the ASHRAE Sam R. Lewis Education Award.
